Review 2010 Lexus HS 250h Hybrid Sedan

Over at our partner site the Car Connection, they got a chance to spend a day with the upcoming dedicated hybrid from Lexus the 2010 HS 250h.

The vehicle is expected to reach dealerships later this summer, but the press is getting their chance to test out the new vehicle now. Our own chance is coming in early June and we will provide a test drive at that point, for now we will highlight some first impressions.

Lexus has yet to announce pricing on the HS, but expect a price tag beyond $35,000. For that amount of dough, you end up with a car that is significantly different than the Toyota Prius upon which it is at least partially based off of, at least technology wise.

The HS uses a 2.4 liter engine that outputs 147hp and combined that with its own version of the Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive system. Combined, they output a total of 187 hp making the HS a formidable performer. According to Lexus, it can accelerate to 60mph in 8.4 seconds, a respectable number. Though the performance...

Detroit Free Press Reviews 2010 Honda Insight, Gives It 2 out of 4 Stars

The Honda Insight, the original hybrid vehicle to hit the roads years ago is all new, but is it much improved.

The previous Insight had its problems, marred by a stiff ride, pronounced road noise, and only two seats just to name a few. But back then Honda was entering new waters. Now hybrids are commonplace and surely you can't go wrong with a Honda. Or can you?

Initial reviews of the new Honda Insight are in and many reviewers don't take too favorably to the new car. Over at the Detroit Free Press, car reviewer Mark Phelan had a chance to drive the vehicle and present his thoughts, and the review is to say the least, negative.

Phelan gives the Insight only 2 out of 4 stars, resulting in a "competent" rating and far below Honda's average of 4 stars by Phelan. So what gives? What has Honda done wrong?

Price cutting has been referred to by many as the problem with the Insight. In order to keep prices low, Honda cut back in many areas and this has hurt the overall vehicle...

MINI E Takes on MINI Cooper S, Exclusive Head to Head Shoot Out, Which One Wins?

MINI E versus MINI S: Head to Head Comparison

What happens when you take a car and convert it to an electric version? To find out we have pitted the MINI E Electric Prototype against a 2008 Mini Cooper S.

First, we will outline our decision to place the Mini E against the S version rather than the base Cooper, then we will run down some specs for comparison purposes, followed by the thrilling head to head test drive.

Technically, the MINI E is based off of the standard Mini Cooper, not the up rated S version. However, the MINI E is priced significantly higher than either gasoline powered version, its churns out horsepower numbers closer to the S model, and is geared towards the enthusiast with its vast amount of torque and 200 plus ponies on board. It seems only fitting to pit it against the performance model, the Cooper S. The base version, an economically sound choice, is not comparable to the high output MINI E.

Test Drive: 2010 Lexus RX450h All-Wheel Drive Hybrid

The Lexus RX450h is newly redesigned and engineered for the 2010 model year, and is the hybrid version of the popular RX350. It replaces the previous RX400h hybrid. The new vehicle uses a second generation hybrid powertrain.

Car and Driver had the chance to take the vehicle out for a short 25 mile test drive.
The Ford Fusion Hybrid is in a category all its own when it comes to hybrid passenger cars. It is new for 2009 and offers an aggressive strong hybrid drivetrain.

Design Unlike the Prius and Insight, the Fusion Hybrid doesn't look like a hybrid. Styling is the same as the gas-only Fusion sedan except for a very attractive hybrid decal. The car has a sleek and attractive athletic pure sedan appeal. The classic Ford wide plate chrome grille is appealing as is the general rake and stance.

Toyota Hybrids Blocked From U.S. Due to Patent Issues?

With sales of Toyota hybrids booming in its home country and elsewhere across the globe, Toyota leads the competition in the hybrid market. Seemingly every hybrid model developed by the company fares well including the newly released Lexus HS 250h. So what could hold Toyota back in this hybrid race? Patent infringements could. Depending on the judgment by U.S. courts, Toyota's imports of certain hybrid models could theoretically be entirely blocked from the U.S. shores.

Michigan Congressman Sander Levin Pushes for Bill to Double Incentives on Heavy Duty Hybrid Vehicles

Michigan Congressman Sander Levin is calling on the House of Representatives to pass a bill he sponsored that will double tax credits for those purchasing heavy-duty vehicles with hybrid powertrains.

According to Levin, the bill which is in the Houses Ways and Means Committee, must be voted on and passed this year. As Levin states, passing the bill will help offset the higher costs of producing and purchasing hybrid vehicles.

Mazda Shows Interest in Building Dedicated Hybrid Model Designed From Ground Up

Recently, Mazda announced plans to introduce several possible hybrids in the next few years. The company intended to make hybrid vehicles with the assistance of Toyota and may still plan to do so, but according to Robert Davis, senior vice president of research and development for Mazda, the company may also design and execute a hybrid in-house from the ground up.

As Davis said, "The technology has to be appropriate to the driving experience we've developed over the years. Nothing against the Prius of the Insight, but certainly if you get in them you have a tough time saying it's a spirited driving experience. Our customer is built around...

The BMW 1-Series is a much bigger deal in Europe than it is here in the States. In the US, we can choose among the 128 and 135, and both options come standard with a six-cylinder engine. Overseas, you can pick up the 1 with two, three, four or five doors, and with a wide variety of four cylinder gasoline and diesel powertrains.

To keep the good times rolling, team Bimmer is again expanding the 1-Series lineup for 2010. Two new models, the Lifestyle and Sport models, will offer RWD performance in a three- or five-door package beginning this September. The Lifestyle model offers special edition Marrakesh Brown Metallic paint, unique brown body color interior components, chrome-tipped exhaust and 17-inch light aluminum rims. The Sport model includes the M Sports Package, with a sports tuned suspension, unique dual spoke aluminum rims, stainless steel pedals, and an M steering wheel and gearshift lever.

On the engine front, a pair of 2.0-liter engines find their way under the bonnet of a 1-Series. The petrol engine utilizes direct injection tech and packs 170 ponies to go along with 155 lb-ft. With the gas-powered 2.0-liter engine, the 1-Series can hit 60 in 7.8 seconds, and it carries a top speed of 149 mph.

REINA: WE CAN PROVE THEM WRONG

Pepe Reina believes a run of back-to-back wins will consign talk of Liverpool's mixed start to 2009-10 to history.
The Reds have collected six points from their opening four matches of the campaign, having both won and lost twice - but Reina remains adamant Rafa Benitez's side will mount a strong challenge for the Barclays Premier League title. "It is not normal for Liverpool to open the season with two defeats from three games," the goalkeeper told the new-look LFC Weekly magazine. "But it's still early days and in a few weeks time, we may have a run of wins behind us and the bad results will be forgotten about. "If a team is going to suffer from bad form, it's better for it to be at the start of the season because there is a lot more time to recover. Many clubs have proven that over the years and gone on to achieve great things at the end of the campaign." He added: "There is a lot of pessimism about our chances this season from the media at the moment, but we are the only people who can prove them wrong. "We still have confidence as a squad and we have to put trust in each other - just like we did last season."

We Are Spartacus, also Raimi and Lawless

Spider-Man’s Sam Raimi teams up with Starz to bring to life the story of Spartacus on the small screenBy Adam Shapiro

I am Andy Whitfield
HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 9/4/09 — “It s our most ambitious effort to date, bold, violent, sexy and a lot of action, said Bob Clasen, chairman and chief executive officer of Starz, remarks,.”With 2009 being a real turning point for the cable channel Starz, 2010 looks to build on that success with the premiere of a new dramatic action series. “Spartacus: Blood and Sand.”
Teasing the show recently at Comic-Con to a tremendous reaction, “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” depicts a graphic novel come to life with nothing held back in terms of violence, sexuality, or language. Produced by Sam Raimi, director of the Spider-Man franchise and producer Rob Tapert (”The Grudge,” “Xena: Warrior Princess.” The two, who are working together on several projects, plan to blend elements of the highly popular films “300″ and “Gladiator,” as well as the latest in digital technology to create unique environments never before seen in a television series. “300 had a particular look. And plus, having a digital environment and not having to have ultra-realistic backdrops and an arena like in “300,” or in “Gladiator,” it allowed us to actually bring this to the screen. There was no way to do it without having the artifice, so to speak,” explained Tapert.
Conquering the role of the rebellious Spartacus is Andy Whitfield, an Australian actor embarking
